Applications
A sterically hindered, orthogonally protected cysteine analog used in Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS). The base-labile Fmoc group protects the alpha-amino functionality, while the acid-labile trityl (Trt) group shields the thiol side chain. Introducing the bulky dimethylated structure of penicillamine restricts backbone flexibility, stabilizes disulfide bonds or thioether macrocycles, and enhances resistance against enzymatic degradation in peptidomimetics and biological therapeutics (such as inhibitory cystine knot peptides).
